Festivals in Malaysia (4ST group 1)

 Malaysia has many religion, races and cultures. Malaysian live in tranquil and harmony. Malaysian celebrates a variety of festivals.

     First and foremost, Malaysian celebrate Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Aidiladha. This festival celebrated by muslims. All muslims will wear a new 'Baju kurung' and 'Baju Melayu' in that day. The festival begins with prayers at the mosque early in the morning.

     After they went home, all muslims will visit their relatives and friends. They will be served with a lot food such as ketupat, lemang, rendang and cookies. Children will get money from adults.

     Next, Malaysian also celebrate Chinese New Year. This festival celebrate by Chinese. They will buy a lot of Mandarin Oranges before the festival. They also prepared a lot of cookies such as 'kuih bakul', moon cakes, pineapple tarts and others. At night, they release 'Tanglung'. They will also light the colourful fireworks.

     On that day, they has lion dance in front of their house. Their families get together for a special reunion dinner. The barchelor and the barcheloratte will receive red packets containing money from the host.

     Finally, Deepavali or the festival of lights is celebrates by hindus. Homes of hindus decorated with little lamps which symbolise the victory of good over evil. On this day, hindus dress in new clothes will go to the temple in the morning to pray. Then they either visit their friends or invite friends over to their homes for feast.


     In a nutshell, these festivals of different races have opened up chances for Malaysians to know and understand the cultures of others. This situation will definitely build up the spirit of unity among the people in the fortunate land.
